Paperidollatry is the little side project I mentioned in my New Year post and now I can happily tick it off my list with a kickstart today.
The idea starting ticking away in my head when I found a rack of paperdolls hidden in a corner of Foyles book store. Amoungst them was a reproduction of the 1952 classic, Here Comes the Bride illustrated by Betty Anderson. Putting aside my wee issues with such blatant gender stereotyping, I was drawn into the lush maximalist watercolour dresses that I think an hour may have passed. Snatching it away for a mere £5, many more moments were spent staring at the gorgeous fifties wedding party gowns and outfits for “the ski trip honeymoon in Sun Valley”.
And so paperidollatry came to be. I’m planning on tackling a monthly vintage project starting with a slip inspired by the Maid of Honour (using Sherry’s fabulous pattern).
I’m really happy to be doing this one just for fun and if you want to follow along you can over at paperidollatry.blogspot.com.

What a sweet idea! I’ll be following with interest.

Paperdolls reminds me of my childhood – loved playing with them and making new outfits for them. I’ll be following your progress.
Great find and fabulous idea!
I used to love playing with these (and would still love to I’m sure)!

um, GIRL. you can make your own paper dolls of yourself! i just made some oona croquis, and there was a point where i had a colorized paper doll of me. i didn’t have the right foundation on to make it perfect, but that’ll be remedied next time. i explained it in the comments of this post: http://oonaballoona.blogspot.com/2012/02/kalkatroonaan-croquis.html
Aw, so cute. I wish that yellow coat was mine in real life!
That looks and sounds like great fun! I’ll have to check it out!
